Unity’s Paws-N-Tails Mosaic
Unity commissioned prominent Media mosaic artist Claire Brill to create a mural that showcases our community members’ love for their pets. True to Unity’s commitment to collaborative work and community engagement, the Paws-N-Tails mosaic is a result of the efforts of Unity’s staff, clients, patients, and supporters. There are currently 3 mosaic tails on display in the Unity reception area. The final mosaic will incorporate seven unique animal tails.
Claire designed Paws-N-Tails, a 4-foot x 20-foot mural comprised of clay paw prints of Unity patients, along with their names, surrounded by mosaic tiles patterned to look like animal tails. Any funds raised for the project in excess of the artist’s fee will be donated to Unity’s Pet Retention Fund, which is used to offset the costs of emergency treatment for animals whose owners have financial need.
Our first mosaic event, which was held prior to Unity’s opening, was a huge success. Paw printing for the Paws-N-Tails mosaic was part of our grand opening and will be part of our Fall, 2014 open house. In addition, clients can make an appointment (free of charge, of course) to have their pet’s paw printed during regular business hours or can receive a kit and instructions to make a print a home.
